About Department of Commerce

The Department of Commerce is the single largest department of the College. The roots of the department dates back to 1977 and moved to the prestige of independent status as a research centre by 2nd November 2012. The achievement is glorious as it is the first commerce department among women colleges in Kerala which has elevated to this status. The department celebrated its Ruby Jubilee in the year 2017.
The department is self-stand to offer courses in B. Com, M.Com and PhD programmes with an updated curriculum. The syllabus meets with the expectations of the global demand to fit the students into the spaces of the ever changing global business environment. The dedicated faculty support and competency of the teachers in taking up the innovations helps in the overall student development.  Department maintains a good teacher – student relationships through its tutorial, mentoring and ‘faculty at home’ sessions.

Business Lab is the unique feature of thedepartment where students are given practical exposure to what they have learne in theories. E filing of income tax returns and online share trading are done in the business lab.

Y WE COM is the best practice of the department. Y WE COM , young women entrepreneures of commerce , creates entrepreneurial culture among students. It provides a platform for hands on training. 

Department organizes seminars, workshops, invited talks, management fests and career guidance classes on a regular basis to equip the students to be qualified in the competitive employment market.
Industrial visits are arranged every year, to provide an exposure to students about the practical working environment of different industries. 

Commerce association-ACT is very active in organizing various activities like business quiz, presentations, group discussions, debates, and celebrations. Students are also encouraged to participate in the extracurricular activities and competitions organized within and outside the college.

A great asset of the department is their extensive alumni networks, who have reached to the eminent positions in various public and private sector enterprises across the globe. These positions are grabbed equally with that of the male sections and work in excellence to widen the fame of the quality education engrained from the department.  Commerce alumnae meet is conducted in the month of January every year, in which alumnae are appreciated for their achievements.

The excellent performance of the department in the engagements inside and outside the college premises extends the outreach activities to collaborate the students with the social communities.
The research activities of the department are active as the department has produced thirteen PhD Degrees .The department also offers NET coaching to M.Com students to initiate the interests on research and attracting the students more into academics. The department is stepping to the next level by consuming the success of the previous years and by adopting new strategies to rise from the pitfalls.
