Job opportunities in the corporate world and challenges in the corporate world was discussed in the seminar

The Department of Commerce and Management Studies organized a seminar on 18th July 2022 at 1 pm, in the College Auditorium. The theme of the seminar was ‘Opportunities and Challenges of the Corporate World’. The seminar was chaired by Reverent Dr. Sr. Elaiza, Principle, and Prof. K.I Thomas, Head, Department of Commerce with resource persons, Ms. Geetha Surendranathan and Ms. Jayasree O.K. There were two sessions in the seminar, the former on Opportunities and Challenges of Corporate World and the latter on Career Opportunities after B.Com. The 2nd-year and 3rd-year students along with the faculty of the department attended the seminar.

The seminar began by seeking the wisdom and guidance of the almighty with a prayer by Sree Parvathy, followed by a welcome speech by Malavika Prakash of 3rd year B.Com CA, with honorable remarks about the resource persons, their reputation, and experience in the field. A brief introduction of the session was given by the host of the seminar, Bavishya P.B of 3rd year B.Com Finance. The principal, Reverent Dr. Sr. Elaiza was then invited to give the presidential address, followed by Prof. K.I Thomas who addressed the students and the guest speakers. The seminar also covered the Prize Distribution to Arya C.R, 3rd-year B.Com Finance student for securing 1st prize in a drawing competition conducted in connection with Njattuvela Mahotsavam, 2022 by Irinjalakuda Municipality, and honoring of Gopika C.R, 3rd-year B.Com Finance student for qualifying one of the papers of ACCA Course in her first attempt itself.

Ms. Geetha Surendranathan, Finance Manager of Huawei LLC, UAE Device, presented the first session which highlighted the emerging opportunities, challenges, and principles of the corporate sector. She enriched the session by sharing her insights, constructed through her own experience of working in the corporate sector for over 20 years, on the work ethics and differences between the workplaces in and out of India. She also extended her talk to discuss the issues of low productivity due to shorter working hours, the inefficiency of workers at the workplace, and the lagging GDP of India. Ms. Jayasree O.K, Tax Practioner in her own firm, C Krishnakumar and Company, presented the second session which highlighted the opportunities and benefits of pursuing Professional Courses in Commerce. Coming from a similar background, she discussed the economic and social benefits of being a Chartered Accountant, realized through her own experience.

Both resource persons, being alumnae of the college, reminisced their good old days in the department, and talked about their diligent learning and practice during the academic years. They also guided the students to abide by the values of respect and discipline throughout their life, in and out of campus. They showed their utmost respect and admiration for their dear teacher, Prof. K.I Thomas by touching his feet and seeking his blessings. The resource persons were then, honored and felicitated with mementos by Prof. K.I Thomas. The seminar concluded by 3:15 pm with a Vote of Thanks speech by Soorya Mariya Raj of 2nd year B.Com CA.
