I chose B.Sc. Mathematics because I genuinely loved mathematics, and joining St. Joseph’s College, IJK turned out to be one of the best academic decisions I have ever made.

My journey at SJC was much more than earning a degree. It was a phase of life that transformed me as a person. Throughout my three years at the college, I had the privilege of being part of the Student Union. I started as the First Year Representative, served as the Finearts Representative during the NAAC year(best part of UG life), and eventually had the honor of becoming the College Chairperson. These experiences enhanced my responsibility, leadership, teamwork skills and the importance of serving a larger community.

One of the most beautiful aspects of life at SJC was the people, who I am still strongly bonded with. Students, teachers and staffs came from different backgrounds and experiences and interacting with them helped me understand that there is never just one way of looking at life. Every conversation, friendship, disagreement, and collaboration taught me something new. It broadened my perspective and made me a more informed, thoughtful, and empathetic person. Being surrounded by people with different stories helped me appreciate and understand life beyond my own experiences.

What always stood out to me was the sense of community within the campus. Everybody seemed to know everybody, and there was always a feeling of belonging. Whether it was during celebrations, events, academic challenges, or everyday college life, people showed up for one another. It was a place where friendships were built naturally and where support was never too far away.

Balancing academics with student leadership responsibilities was never easy. There were many days when my commitments kept me away from classes. However, the support I received from both my teachers and classmates was incredible. The faculty members were understanding and encouraging, always ensuring that I did not fall behind. My classmates were equally kind and supportive making my degree life a lot easier by sharing notes, sending study materials online, xeroxed class notes on my behalf and constantly checked in to make sure I was not missing out on anything important.

College life at SJC transformed me into someone who is more forgiving, more thoughtful, and more grounded. It taught me humility and acceptance. The opportunities I received allowed me to explore different dimensions of life and discover strengths within myself that I did not know existed.

As for B.Sc. Mathematics, it strengthened my ability to think critically and approach situations with logic and clarity. Mathematics taught me discipline, patience, the importance of analyzing problems, and mainly there are more than one method to solve a solution which I use in my daily life. More than just a subject, it shaped the way I think and approach life.

Like any journey, there were challenges and difficult moments. However, when I reflect on who I am today, I realize that SJC always believed in me, supported me, and encouraged me to grow. The optimism that the college community had about me became one of my greatest sources of confidence and strength.
Looking back, I can say that my years at St. Joseph’s College were filled with learning, leadership, friendships, laughter, responsibilities, and countless memories. It was a place that not only educated me but also transformed me into a better, more compassionate, more confident person and mainly gave me a bunch of lovely people to share life. For that, I will be eternally grateful.
