Research Department Of Chemistry
Centre for Research in Chemical Sciences (CRCS) at St. Joseph’s College, Irinjalakuda, stands as a hub of quality research, constantly striving for excellence in the field of chemical sciences. Recognized as a Research Centre in 2009, the Postgraduate Department of Chemistry currently has seven approved research guides engaged in frontier areas of chemistry. At present, thirteen scholars are pursuing their Ph. D. degrees at our department contributing to impactful and interdisciplinary research.
The Department is well-equipped with research facilities that support cutting-edge scientific investigations. Major instruments include UV–Visible Spectrophotometers, FT–IR Spectrometer, Gas Chromatograph (GC), Water Analysis Unit, Cyclic Voltammetry Workstation (funded by RUSA), Solar Simulator, Soxhlet Apparatus, and Rotary Evaporator. The department has also received DST–FIST and SPARK funding for advanced instrumentation. An electrospinning unit is being established to further strengthen research capabilities and promote innovation in material science. The department also provides opportunities for postgraduate students from other institutions to undertake their M.Sc. project work, offering them comprehensive practical exposure to modern instrumental techniques and fostering a strong research culture at the postgraduate level. The faculty maintain an impressive record of publications in reputed international journals and patents, reflecting their unwavering commitment to research excellence.
