B.Sc. Zoology

B.Sc. in Zoology is an undergraduate programme of six semesters which is completed in three years. The course is affiliated to University of Calicut with Chemistry and Botany as complementary subjects. Zoology is one of the broadest sciences as it includes study of variety of animals and complexity of processes occurring within them. Through this programme, we provide key concepts of Biosciences, including those on essential molecules, genes, cells, genetic engineering, biostatistics etc. Focus on topics like taxonomy, environmental biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, ethology etc. will help the students to learn to conserve and care for animal life and environment they are living in. Field studies and nature camps are an integral part of imparting knowledge. Zoology practicals are a vital component of the core course. B.Sc. in Zoology can pave the way for students to take up employment opportunities in educational sector, pharmaceutical enterprises, medical laboratories, hospitals, etc. They have scope in Indian Forest Service, animal biodiversity research, wildlife conservation, environment management, monitoring of ecosystems etc. They can also opt for higher studies in Zoology. Students with more than 55% in higher secondary level are eligible for this course.

M.Sc. Zoology 

Master of Science in Zoology is a two-year postgraduate programme focused on professional development. It includes didactic teaching, practical teaching and learning, seminar presentations, project work etc. The programme covers important life science areas such as Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Systematics, Evolution, Developmental Biology, Physiology, Microbiology and Biotechnology. Human Genetics is the elective course that encompasses Clinical Genetics, Diagnostic Genetics, and Cancer Genetics and Genetic services which are dealt in the third and fourth semesters. M.Sc. Zoology programme also includes practical in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Immunology and Human Genetics. The programme demands a project report to be submitted to the university. The  students have an opportunity to work in reputed research institutions during their project period. The course is designed specifically for those who want to improve their knowledge in life sciences.

A graduate degree in Zoology with at least 50% or higher marks is required to pursue M.Sc. Zoology. A higher degree will not only provide extensive knowledge of the subject but also will open the door to more advanced job options as teachers, professors, research assistants, scientists among other positions.
